What is the Partnership Project?

The Glasgow Partnership is run by NCH Action for Children and Apex Scotland, in partnership with Glasgow City Council Social Work Department. Working both in groups and individually, the project aims to provide the courts with an alternative to custody programme as an added condition of probation.

Who is it for?

The project caters for people:

bullet aged 16-21 years
bullet who live in the Glasgow area
bullet who are at risk of receiving custody
What has it got to do with me?

If you have pled, or have been found guilty of an offence, you may have been referred to the project for assessment before sentencing. There are 2 possible routes of referral:

bullet The court has requested an assessment report from the project at the same time as a Social Enquiry Report.
bullet The social worker preparing your Social Enquiry Report may feel your offending behaviour could possibly be best addressed by attendance at the project.
What Happens Next?

During the assessment, you will have the chance to discuss your feelings about attending the project. Your social worker will also be involved in this process.

A report will then be sent to court explaining the reasons for recommendation. It is important to remember that the court has the final say in whether you receive a programme or not.

What happens if I get a Programme?

If you receive a programme, it is a condition of Probation. Initially, you will attend an interview to help decide what should be included in your programme. You will be expected to choose 5 or more modules, all of which will assist you in moving away from offending. Modules will be between 2 and 3 days in length.

Examples of modules available include:

bullet General Offending
bullet Violence, Aggression and Anger Management
bullet Relationships Drugs
bullet Alcohol
What's in it for me?

As getting and keeping a job can be a big problem if you have a criminal record, the Partnership Project offers a number of modules designed to increase your chances of getting a job, training or college place.

Examples of modules available are:

bullet Communication Skills
bullet Computer and I.T. Familiarity
bullet Overcoming barriers to employment
bullet How to disclose previous convictions
bullet Employablility Skills
What happens if I'm sick or miss an appointment
If you are going to be late or are not able to attend at all, it is very important that you contact the project straight away. You will also be expected to supply the project with proof, for example, a certificate from a doctor will be required to cover sickness
Progress
Both the court and the Social Work Department will be kept informed of your progress and a report will be sent to the court once you have completed your programme. You will have access to this report and can discuss it with your project worker.
What else should I know?
bullet As you are on Probation, you will still be expected to see your social worker as required.
bullet Attendance at the Project should not affect your benefits.
bullet Your travel expenses to attend the Project can be claimed back. Lunches will be provided for you.
